PARAPHRASE

Nicholas Keyworth

ABOUT

As a young composer, fresh out of University, I had started my first teaching post at The Collegiate School near Bristol. The former music teacher, Enid Hunt was an avid recorder player and she suggested I wrote a short piece for the Bristol Branch of The Society of Recorder Players which she had founded with her brother Edgar in 1948. The SRP continues to be a thriving community across the UK with over 1300 recorder-loving musicians.

My brief was to involve all instruments in the recorder family, to be contemporary and challenging, and to expand their repertoire. The result was Paraphrase which I directed in a workshop and subsequent performance with the group way back in 1982. I have now revisited this piece, typeset it in Sibelius and sorted out a few anomalies. It is a useful piece to add into any programme for performance.
