More about Trinity College London

Trinity College London is an established and Ofqual recognised international exam board for Music, Speech & Drama and English Language. Trinity exams are designed to help learners develop 21st century skills in communication, creativity, and to build confidence.

  • What do I have to do?

Trinity’s exams contain practical, creative tasks that help develop invaluable 21st century skills in communication, English language, imagination, and confidence. When you are ready, you can show these skills to an examiner either face-to-face or digitally on video. You can see the different elements you will need to prepare for the exam below.

  • Which grade is right for me?

Here are some guidelines which might help you choose the right grade for you. These are only suggestions – the important things to is start at a level where you feel comfortable with the length and content of the pieces.

  • What about the exam?

When you have prepared all the elements of the exam and you feel ready, you can enter for an exam. You can do this face-to-face with an examiner (where available) or do it online. You can make an entry either through the Trinity website or through your country representative.

  • What are the benefits of an exam?

After you’ve done your exam, you will get a written report about your performance and a lovely certificate. This is recognised internationally as a measure of your success.

Here is a chart to show you what you need to do for each grade in the exam. If you are already doing Drama exams many of the elements for Acting (solo) are the same with a monologue, mime and a reflection task. If you have a friend or someone share a lesson with you can prepare the exam as a pair – it can be more fun too.

  • How do I start ?

First of all, have a look through the information about each monologue or duologue on this website. Look at the stage directions, the excerpts, the hints and tips and the video with some questions to help you think about how to prepare the piece. You can then choose the ones you like and buy one or more digital downloads. You are then ready to start to bring your character(s) to life!

  • How can I practice?

When you have bought your monologue or duologue, follow the stage directions in the script carefully, and of course, make sure you learn your lines! You can also go back and study the guidance on the website pages.

Think about how you can use props to help your performance feel more real. You can also practice in front of a mirror so you can see what works.

Find opportunities to try out to your performance in front of friends, family or at school. This is a great way to build confidence and to receive feedback which you can use to improve.

  • How can I get more help?
