Excerpt
Storm
Right! The map says six steps north from the gate. This must be the gate here.
Jack
How big?
Storm
What?
Jack
How big should the steps be?
Storm
Well… (Demonstrating) Big strides like this.
Jack
Or, (Demonstrating) little baby steps like these?
Storm
Look! (Frustrated) The map doesn’t say. Let’s just do normal sized steps.
Jack
This is a waste of time, Jess. I bet there’s no buried treasure here.
They both study the map

- This duologue is ideal for Grade 2 exams – but can also be used at other levels.
- Either of the characters Storm and Jack can be male or female.
- You will need two props – an old map (you can make you own) and a small plastic shovel or spade.
- Plan out your movements so you use the whole stage space effectively.
- Make sure your voices are always clear to the audience as you move around – so don’t speak with your back to the audience.
