Ali

Well, My friends say that I’m not very good at playing games. I always seem to lose at things like card games and board games. It’s not fair though. It’s just luck if you get good cards dealt. If you throw a six at dice, that’s also just chance. But I don’t seem to have much luck when I play games.

(Ali stares at the envelope) I prefer playing games that don’t have a winner or a loser. For example, I love to skip with a rope or fly my kite in the park. 

(Ali looks up at the teacher) But my favourite game is making things with my building set. Yesterday, I made a model of a palace. It has little soldiers guarding the gate and some of them are riding horses…

Hints & tips

  • This monologue is ideal for Grade 1 exams – but can also be used at other levels.
  • The character Ali can be male or female
  • Act out the scene as if you are talking to your teacher who is sitting behind a desk.
  • Use a sealed envelope with a ticket or letter inside as a prop.
  • Time the opening of the envelope carefully to fit in with the script.
