Fin and Dev have been camping in the woods and are returning home with rucksacks on their backs. They look up and we are to imagine the clouds they see are high above the audience and at different locations.
Excerpt
Fin
What a beautiful sky, Dev.
Dev
Yes it’s amazing. It was great camping out in the woods last night, but I’m definitely ready to go home now. I’m missing my lovely soft bed and comfy pillow.
Fin
It was a lot of fun though, wasn’t it?
Dev
Definitely. Cooking our own food over a camp fire and listening to the sounds of the woods at night. (Looking up at the sky and pointing) Look! That cloud looks like a pillow, Fin – a great big pillow for a giant to rest his head on.
Fin
(Looking upwards) Oh, yes. And that cloud over there looks like a huge fluffy white cat.
Dev You’re right! It might be the giant’s pet cat. A fluffy white cat called Snowball.
Hints & tips
- This duologue is ideal for Initial exams – but can also be used at other levels.
- Either of the characters Fin and Dev can be male or female.
- Each character will need to wear a rucksack as a prop.
- Plan out where the imaginary clouds are so you always point in the same direction.
- You will also need to plan out your entrances and exits to and from the stage.
- Use the whole of the stage area to give the impression that you are trekking through a forest.
