ACTING (PAIRS)

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT (PAIRS)

For Grade 3 only

What is Character Development?

  • This is an opportunity to think more about the character in you duologue.
  • This allows you to creatively explore how your character might react or behave in different situations. This will help you to gain deeper insights into their character and the narrative.
  • You can use your imagination to come up with a range of ideas for this and explore these ideas through improvisation.
  • It is important to rehearse and perform your piece thoroughly so you can perform with confidence and fluency.
  • A script is not necessary for this task

Character Development in Trinity’s Acting Exams

  • This is a task for candidates at Grade 3 in the Acting (pairs) exams.
  • You will need to create a scene which takes place either immediately before, or immediately after the duologue you performed.
  • You have up to 5 minutes to perform your piece in the exam.
  • Give a brief outline describing your scene before you perform it either verbally or in writing.

Hints & tips

  • Use you imagination to think about what your character is doing before or after your piece.
  • It is important to discuss your thoughts with your acting partner.
  • Jot down all your ideas then try improvising a short scene which leads into your piece – or follows on after.
  • You can write a script for your character development piece if you wish – or just make notes.
  • Remember to explore the moods and emotions in your characters as well.
  • Practice your piece until you are confident and can perform it with fluency.
